EXCITING: "basketball players". steal dribble, behind the back cross over pass, or pull up and shoot, or dunk, or finger roll, or left or right, lots of left, fundamental. 3 pointers, fade aways, no looks, bounce passes, clutch leadership, free throws, good form, carrying the team on your back, mid range jumpers, defense, guard the 1, guard the 2, guard the 3, guard the 4, block shots, pin shots, rebound rebound rebound, sprint, hustle, reliability.
NOT EXCITING: "athletes"(if i wanted this id watch the nfl, not the nba)catch dunk, catch dunk, dunk, block, rebound, dunk, jump high, block, 2 dribble dunk, dump pass, jump, dunk, tall, jump high dunk, catch dunk, rebound.
and dont get me wrong, "athletic players" can help teams, and i understand their are specialists, but it just seems to me that if you are gonna be a specialist and basketball player, why not specialize in a basketball skill. shoot, dribble, pass, ball handle. now i know players get by on just being athletic, and thats fine, and if the team they are on sucks enough they can even lead that team or play a large roll, but for me i love to watch "basketball". and it seems to me the teams that had, and have, the most "basketball" players, seem to do pretty well, plus i enjoy watching them more than the pure "athlete".
maybe its front running, maybe its bandwagon or mainstream to have a favorite player like lebron, but i feel he is the most complete player in the game today. and could be the most complete player of all time. now i know he isnt perfect at every aspect, no player is, but i feel he plays "basketball" better than anyone out there right now and is getting better every year, and expanding his game(god help the league if he dials in his jumper like MJ or Kobe). He scores, rebounds, defends, ball handles, assists, leads, carries his team, good attitude, plays 1-4, and makes the occasional circus shot or buzzer beater.
ps i love dwight howard, love his attitude, love his athleticism, love the excitment he brings with his dunks and block, love the fact that he rebounds his ass off, id just like to see his game grow more towards being a "basketball player". if you put basketball fundamentals and skills with that athleticism, then we re talking.
and gilbert is fine, ive watched him a couple times and he hasnt hooked me yet. i treat him like a song. i give him a spin, not feeling it, listen again, not feelin it, put it on hold, come back to it later. i cold be wrong, i was wrong about breaking benjamin, it was like 5 years later, and i had to see them live, but they rock. they got some good shit, good musicians, good tone, nice instruments, catching songs, cool riffs. Gill just hasnt layed down that hook that i can t get outta my head yet, but i havent forgot about him.

I understand that gil hasn't hooked you yet partially because he's been injured for almost two years (knee surgerys which i know you can sympathize with) and when he has played within the last couple seasons he came back too early, wasn't himself and re injured himself. All the things you listed though...gil maybe he can't play 1-4 but he can play 1-2 which is all you can ask from a 6'3 guard. He passes well not flashy, he doesnt do flashy dunks or highlight real in your face moves, but he makes clutch buckets, you tube gilbert buzzer beaters and you'll find alot more than what i showed you. not to mention in the 10 games he played last year he had buzzer beaters that tied the game in 2 of them. He isnt super athletic but he does everything a winner does. Leads his team (they have an abismal record without him) makes no excuses and dominates his position. In his injury plagued season last year he averaged 20 points 2 steals 5 dimes and 4 boards in 31 minutes a game. the 3 seasons before..... 27 points 2 steals 6 assists and 4 boards. Hes a great leader and tremendous success story being drafted in the second round ala michael redd. He also is hilarious and his blog is some of the most entertaining reading of all time. he's not lebron, but who is, the guy, along with dwight, is a freak of nature....but he is a great player and when he returns fully healthy i hope you take the time to watch him shine!
Did you just say that fundamentals are exciting to watch?
